After a productive week on the training pitch, Sheffield Wednesday Ladies continued their preparations for the 2026/27 campaign with a 4-3 victory over Altofts Ladies in an entertaining pre-season encounter.

The Owls handed a first outing to new signing Eve Bennett, while two players from the reserve squad were also given the opportunity to impress as Wednesday produced an encouraging performance in testing conditions.

Wednesday made a bright start, taking control of possession and applying early pressure on the Altofts back line. Their positive approach was rewarded when Colford stepped up to dispatch a well-struck free-kick, giving the hosts an early advantage.

Altofts responded quickly to level the scores, but Wednesday continued to look dangerous every time they attacked. Jodie G opened her account for pre-season with a composed finish before Kaye added a third with an excellent strike to extend the lead.

The visitors pulled another goal back before the break, but Wednesday restored their two-goal cushion before half-time to head into the interval with a deserved 4-2 advantage.

The second half proved a more evenly contested affair as both sides battled through the warm conditions. Altofts reduced the deficit once more, but Wednesday remained a threat on the counter-attack while showing resilience defensively to see out the closing stages and secure a 4-3 victory.
