Wednesday Ladies Reserves were 2-0 winners over Charnock to put themselves 5th in the league table

Wednesday Ladies came into this game against a side that had the capacity to cause an upset as they have taken points from top teams in this division.

Wednesday got the first early chance of the game after Abbie Timson played the ball forward to Michaela Barrett who flicked the ball on for Chloe Rose, who saw her shot go over the top of the bar.

Another chance fell Wednesday’s way not long after as Barrett pounced on a defensive error to put herself one on one but her shot went the wrong side of three post.

In the 34th minute, Timson was forced into making her first real save after a cross into the box was flicked on by the Charnock attacker, who saved the shot at her near post.

Two minutes later, Timson put Wednesday on the front foot after a long ball up the pitch to Barrett, she then flicked the ball past the oncoming keeper and passed the ball to Diana Garin who had her shot stopped on the goal line.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 41st minute of the game after Rose scored directly from a corner to give Wednesday the lead heading into half time.

Wednesday started the second half strong as within the first two minutes Garin whipped in a cross to Barrett who tapped the ball past the keeper but once again saw the ball go the wrong side of the post.

Not long after, the Owlesses had another chance to double their lead after Monika Charles played a one two with Barrett then the striker had a shot that hit the crossbar.

As the game started to peter out, Mika Russell crossed in a brilliant ball to Barrett who saw her shot saved by the Charnock keeper keeping the score at 1-0.

With 15 left to play Timson was once again called into action after she was forced to make a great save at her near post to keep Wednesday in the lead. From the resulting corner the Wednesday shot-stopper was forced into making another save after the ball delivered to the back post the header was completely saved.

Wednesday eventually got their second goal after a one-two between Russell and Garin, Diana saw her 30 yard shot go straight into the top corner to give the Owlesses a 2-0 lead.

After the goal Wednesday comfortably saw the game out as they came out victorious with a 2-0 away win and a clean sheet to go with it.

Diana Garin was given Player Of The Match for her brilliant effort and a superb goal.

Wednesday's next game will be in the semi final of the SHGWL Shield on the 23rd March.
