The U9s lost 13-0 in the cup to a dominant Staveley team. There were positives to take from it, from Kara making some impeccable saves and the training with goalkeeper coach Jamie is beginning to have a brilliant effect on her confidence. The new players in the side are finding their feet within the team too. There was good movement and touches on the ball from the team as a whole. Thea got Player of the Match for her determination, none stop running and tackling.
Elsewhere, our U10s played against Rawmarsh in the cup. With the scores deadlocked at 1-1 at full-time, the game went to penalties. Unfortunately, the Owlesses bowed out 4-2 on spot-kicks. The side did very well to create plenty of opportunities in front of goal, but a goal just wouldn’t fall. Rawmarsh battled and gave a good game.
Our U11’s blew the cobwebs off after a five week break to win 0-6. The game saw some great football played by the Owlesses on what was a tough pitch. Plenty of credit should be handed to the opposition who never let their heads drop.
It was a battle in cold conditions yet again for our U12’s. In a very tight match that could have gone either way, Wednesday Ladies goalkeeper Matilda produced some outstanding saves to keep the team in the match at 1-1 with 10 minutes to go, with the Owllesses goal coming from Alysia. The match could have gone either way but Belles managed to get over the line with two goals in the later stages of the game, meaning that it finished 3-1 to the opposition. It was yet again another battling performance from all the girls.
Our U13’s Blue triumphed in a tightly fought cup game at home against Rossington. The Wednesday Ladies side played some very good football knocking it all around the field, Leila was exceptional, scoring a hat-trick and earning herself the well-deserved title of Player of the Match. Olivia was also on top form and dangerous down the wing scoring an amazing 4th goal. Despite facing numerous injuries, the team showed remarkable resilience and determination.
They emerged victorious with a final score of 4-1. All the girls played exceptionally well, making it a very challenging game where our team came out on top.
It was back to league action with a home tie against Dronfield today for our U13’s White. After a slow start, we eventually broke the deadlock with Milly finding the back of the net. Closely followed by Isla smashing home. An unlucky bobble on the pitch in front of goal got Dronfield on the scoresheet and from then on Dronfield fought hard, evening the scores before taking the lead. The Wednesday girls never gave up. They dug deep despite an injury to Mia. And managed to equalise through a lovely strike by Isla. There were special mentions at the end for Ellie, for her corners that were on point today and Alessia who’s work rate won her the accolade of POTM.
The U14’s came away with a point in a 10-goal thriller at Penistone after going behind after two minutes, and then scored five in 16 minutes penistone got two back before the break making 5-3 the second half we defended well but unfortunately conceded two more goals to end a thrilling game 5-5.
Our U18’s lost 3-1 in a game that saw Wednesday Ladies’ tired legs in the second half lead to a goal conceded on the break. The opposition were a bit more clinical, and we didn't control the game as well as we did in the first half, but nonetheless, it was a great effort all round, and all we ask is that they take the lessons learnt into the next few games. The goalscorer for the Owlesses was Amara, whilst Nicole was handed Player of the Match.
