The Development side enjoyed a successful afternoon on the road over the weekend, securing a 3–2 league victory against Maltby Juniors Women.

Wednesday produced a strong team performance to come away with all three points, with Megan Hammond playing a key role in the victory. Hammond found the net twice and also provided an assist, earning herself the Player of the Match award after an impressive individual display.

Tilly Ironside was also among the goalscorers for the Owls, adding Wednesday’s other goal as the Development side did enough to edge an entertaining five-goal contest.

It was another positive afternoon for the group, with the result providing a welcome reward for their efforts and continuing the Development side’s progress in the early stages of the campaign.

The Reserves faced a significant step up in opposition in the Women’s County Cup, taking on a Worksop SJR side competing three divisions higher.

Despite the difference in levels, Wednesday approached the challenge with real determination and competed throughout against a strong and experienced Worksop side. The Reserves produced some encouraging spells of football and continued to work tirelessly for one another, even as the quality of the higher-level opposition ultimately told in a 7-1 defeat.

The result brings our County Cup journey to an end, but there is plenty for this group to take from testing themselves against a side three divisions above.

We’re immensely proud of the Reserves, the way they represented the club and the effort shown by every player. A difficult test, but valuable experience and plenty to build on.
