Mid season review: Sheffield Wednesday Ladies

Charles Garrett9 Dec 2025 - 12:15

Sheffield Wednesday Ladies mid-season review for the 25/26 season.

After seven league games and three cup fixtures, the halfway mark of the season is approaching. Wednesday Ladies currently sit in 5th in the table, with a 4-0-3 record, showing real progress and competitiveness when compared to last season. The squad has had several standout fixtures, including a dominant 4-1 win over York and a dramatic 4-3 defeat against Ilkley.

September opened in style with a commanding 5-0 cup win over NERWFL Reporting, but momentum briefly stalled with back-to-back defeats to Handsworth and Ossett. The month ended on a high, though, as Wednesday beat Ilkley away from home, kick-starting a strong run of form.

October proved to be Wednesday's most successful month, producing impressive victories over Millmoor and Farsley, with the only setback coming in a tight rematch against Handsworth. Form dipped slightly in November, with Wednesday exiting the cup against Farsley and losing three of their four games, all by tight margins - including a frustrating 3-2 loss at Lower Hopton.

On the road, the Owlesses have been impressive, maintaining a perfect 100% record with three wins from three, claiming impressive away victories over York, Farsley, and Ilkley. Home form, however, has been a contrast, with just one league win and four defeats.

Goals certainly haven’t been hard to come by this season, with contributions spread right across the squad. Nicole Shaw leads the scoring charts with an impressive 8 goals in 10 games, while Amy Broomhead follows with 4. Barrett has added 3, with Ferguson and Norsworthy both on 2. Yeardley, Gilligan, Rose, McHugh, Colford, and Clayton all have 1 a piece.

Rachel Norsworthy leads the assists chart by some margin with 6, with Shaw, Rose, Yeardley, Stancill, Hastie, and Broomhead also contributing.

Wednesday have performed well so far this season, and there is still a long way to go in this season, and there is significant hope that the team can better their 8th-place finish from last season.
