Wednesday Ladies return to action for the first time in the new year, taking on Lower Hopton away from home. Away from home, the Owlesses boast a 100% win rate, so there is cautious optimism heading into the game that we can get a result here.
With fixtures across the league disrupted by poor weather in recent weeks, coach Andy Gilligan believes all teams now share a desire to simply get back on the pitch:
“Given the extended break due to the weather, I think most sides in our league are now just desperate to get back playing."
"It’s great that our last game was such a positive one, but it’s now just a case of getting back out there and playing some football.”
Wednesday will be looking to continue the momentum from the Farsley victory, but have historically struggled against Sunday’s hosts. Lower Hopton have come out on top in the last three meetings between the sides, but Gilligan remains confident in his team’s ability to turn performances into results:
"Last time out was a difficult result to take, but that’s football, and despite the result, we know we were very much in that game throughout. We haven’t quite had the rub of the green against Lower Hopton these last two seasons, but hopefully we can forget all about that on Sunday and put in a performance that gains us the result we seek.”
Gilligan was impressed with his side's resilience and determination in the 4-1 win before the Christmas break:
"We’ll be going with the same mentality and system we deployed so well against Farsley.”
The Owlesses will be looking to start the new year on the right foot and continue that momentum into the crucial end of the season. Kick off is set for 2pm at Woodend Road, WF14 8PR.
