After returning to winning ways against York in a thrilling game last weekend, Wednesday head into Sunday's game in positive spirits. Wednesday remain in 4th place after a win last time out, but it remains incredibly close, with only five points separating 3rd and 7th.
Despite a challenging run of fixtures, Coach Andy Gilligan believes the group's attitude has never wavered, and that belief within the squad is continuing to grow:
"Given the lengthy gaps, it did feel a while since our last win, so great to get those 3 points in the bag. It has been a tough spell, but it's not felt it."
"The positivity, the work ethic, everything has been spot on, we've just had a tough run of games and come up short in spells in games, but all in all I can see the team growing and developing brilliantly and more results like Sunday's just build the confidence that we're doing the right things."
Attention now turns to 2nd place Handsworth, a side Wednesday have struggled against historically in the past two seasons, adding extra incentive to get a result:
"I don't want to sound like a broken record, but we're going to have to be right on it from minute one on Sunday. We've not had the better of Handsworth yet in the last two seasons, but I've always enjoyed our encounters, and it's really fascinating to see how both clubs are growing and progressing."
There has also been significant progress off the pitch in recent weeks, with competition for places increasing:
"It's been a really productive couple of weeks off the field, too, with new signings coming in and players returning from illness and injuries. From struggling to get an 11 a month or so ago, we're now back to very healthy numbers."
"Not only have these signings increased our numbers and options, but they're raising the quality too, and I think all the players can see what they bring."
Kick off is set for 2 pm at Oliver's Mount, Darnall, S9 4PA.
