Match preview: Farsley cup challenge awaits

Match preview: Farsley cup challenge awaits

Charles Garrett7 Nov - 15:45

Wednesday Ladies take on Farsley in the North East Regional League Cup.

After a frustrating defeat to Lower Hopton last weekend, the Owlesses will be determined to bounce back in a cup clash against Farsley. The last time these two sides met, Wednesday came out on top away from home in a close 4-3 encounter.

Reflecting on last week's performance, coach Jack Duty said:

"We came out of the blocks slowly, which has been unlike us this season, and we were punished for it by going 2-0 down. We were in complete control for nearly all of the second half, but Hopton took the lead late on against the run of play."

Sunday's opponents currently sit in 4th in the NERWFL, one position ahead of Wednesday, having played two more games this season. With Farsley in strong form and a tough challenge expected, Duty commented:

"If they start those key players, we expect a tough game, but if we stick to our game plan and build on our performances over the season so far, we will be successful."

"We haven't had much luck in cup competitions this year, as we deserved a win from the Ossett game, and we weren’t at our usual levels against Handsworth, so it would be nice to have a bit of a cup run."

On the team’s approach to cup games, he added:

“We approach every game the same way so that we can build some consistency and confidence in how we play. When we are on it and working together, we can beat anyone in this league and compete against teams from higher up, as we showed against Ossett.”

“We are hopeful of another good result on Sunday and bounce back to winning ways as quickly as possible.”

Kick-off is scheduled for 3pm at Jubilee Sports and Social Club, hope to see you down there!
