Sheffield Wednesday Ladies begin their 2026/27 league campaign on Sunday with a trip to face York City Ladies Development.
Following the conclusion of pre-season and an opening competitive outing in the Women’s FA Cup, attention now turns firmly towards the league as Wednesday look to start the new campaign on a positive note.
The Owls will be boosted by the return of Milly Colford, Abbie Hastie, Jodie Gregory, Nicole Shaw and Eve Bennett, who are all set to return to action this weekend.
Amy Broomhead will be unavailable for the fixture, while Jess Birtles remains sidelined through injury as she continues to focus on her recovery. Birtles will remain involved with the group and feature as part of the coaching staff until she is available to return to action.
THE OPPOSITION
Sunday’s hosts, York City Ladies Development, finished ninth last season after collecting eight points, ending the campaign just two points clear of the relegation places.
With a new season comes a fresh start for both sides, and Wednesday will be looking to build on the progress made during recent campaigns as they begin another year in the North East Regional Women’s Football League.
