MATCH PREVIEW | WEDNESDAY V YORK CITY LADIES DEVELOPMENT

MATCH PREVIEW | WEDNESDAY V YORK CITY LADIES DEVELOPMENT

Julie Higgins

Sheffield Wednesday Ladies return to action on Sunday afternoon as York City Ladies visit S6.

Wednesday will be looking to respond following last weekend’s 4-1 defeat to Evolution Ladies, which brought the Owls’ unbeaten start to the season to an end.

A difficult opening 45 minutes saw Wednesday head into the interval four goals behind, but an improved second-half display provided a response. The Owls showed greater control after the restart and pulled a goal back as they looked to find a route back into the contest.

Attention now turns to Sunday and the opportunity to get back on track against a York side who have made an unbeaten start to their league campaign.

TEAM NEWS

Wednesday continue to manage several absentees heading into the weekend.

Milly Colford remains sidelined with a Weber B fracture, while Rachel Norsworthy will also miss out after suffering a broken collarbone during last weekend’s fixture against Evolution.

Giovanna Petruccelli remains unavailable after picking up a muscular injury in training, while Jess Birtles continues her recovery from injury. Birtles remains closely involved with the first-team group and will continue to contribute as part of the coaching staff during her rehabilitation.

THE OPPOSITION

York City Ladies arrive in S6 sitting second in the league and unbeaten in the competition so far this season.

The visitors come into Sunday’s fixture following an emphatic 5-0 home victory over Lower Hopton Ladies and will provide another strong test for Wednesday.

The two sides are already familiar with one another, having met earlier this season. On that occasion, an entertaining contest in York ended 3-3, with neither side able to find a decisive winner.

Sunday therefore provides another opportunity for two sides who have both started the campaign strongly to go head-to-head, with Wednesday looking to produce a response on home soil and return to winning ways.
