Clinical Wednesday get the job done at Millmoor

Clinical Wednesday get the job done at Millmoor

Charles Garrett23 Mar - 10:10

Lee goes back-to-back as three sharp finishes seal a 3-0 win.

After an action-packed 6-4 win over Rossington at the Jubes, new coach Kieron Lee was looking to make it 2 wins from 2 as the Owlesses faced struggling Millmoor on the road.

It wasn't a fast start from Wednesday, with Millmoor making things difficult early on and preventing the visitors from settling into their usual rhythm. Despite that, the Owlesses showed their quality when it mattered.

Just past the 10-minute mark, new signing Keely Franklin broke the deadlock with a close-range goal into the roof of the net, marking her third goal in just two appearances for Wednesday.

15 minutes later, our lead was then doubled by Nicole Shaw in style, taking on a couple of Millmoor players before calmly slotting into the corner - a tidy finish, and her first goal since returning.

At half time, Wednesday were 2-0 up in tricky conditions, with the home side putting up a great fight as they are fighting for survival in the division.

Despite their valiant efforts, Millmoor were simply outclassed by Wednesday, with substitute Courtney Kaye delivering the final blow - her acrobatic effort on the half volley made it 3-0 to seal the win and make it two goals in two games for the striker.

While Wednesday weren't at their best, they remained defensively solid and took their chances when presented to them. Standout performances came from Imogen Yeardley and Bekah Pratley, who shared the Player of the Match award for their composed display at the back.

That win sees Wednesday up to 3rd in the table, with just three games left to go in the season. Next weekend, we are on the road again for a massive fixture in the race, facing Altofts, who sit just two points behind us in 4th.

Starting XI: Coughlan; Vessey, Yeardley, Pratley; Stancill, Crossland, Gregory, Shaw, Norsworthy; Broomhead, Franklin. Subs: Rose, Colford, Kaye.

Goals: Franklin, Shaw, Kaye.
