Action packed junior weekend sees mixed bag of results for SWLFC

Lewis Railton9 Feb - 13:00

Here is how our junior sides fared this weekend.

Our U9’s had a friendly to keep legs fresh in the side. The entire team played amazingly with no subs against a battling U8 team, in what was a learning curve playing their first 7v7 clash.

Elsewhere, the U10’s showed some of their best football of the entire season. The entire team’s positioning and formation work was top notch. Well done to the side for looking so composed against an incredibly strong team.

The U11’s travelled away to Wickersley with the challenge of utilising a team with no substitutions. They played brilliantly, battling despite their tired legs in the second half, and showed immense character to keep giving 100% effort until the final whistle.

It was yet again another great team effort again from our U12’s. Despite challenges during the game, including the opposition showing plenty of quality, the team managed to record a well deserved 3-2 victory. They took lead through Alysia with a superb chip over an advancing keeper. The highlight of the game was a debut goal for a new Wednesday Ladies player, which topped off a brilliant afternoon for the U12’s.

Our U13’s White lost 5-2 to a very physically strong Charnock side in the league. The early stages saw the side fall slightly behind in regards to urgency and fight but a half time talk put some fire back into the bellies and they started to come back into the game with a much improved and brilliant showing. Unfortunately, it was simply too late for us. Our girls tried to play football but were simply beaten by the long balls and physicality of Charnock.

The U15’s stole the points today despite being somewhat outplayed for parts of the game. They stayed together brilliantly, remained resolute and ran out 2-1 winners against Dronfield. The game saw two cracking goals and also two debutants came in today and fit in brilliantly.

Finally, our U16's lost 2-1 in a tight clash to Millmoor Juniors, with all goals being converted from the penalty spot. Lyla notched the sole goal for Wednesday Ladies, and despite playing really well, some decisions went against the U16's, meaning that Millmoor took the win.
